Be very wary of circulating misinformation in a form of a WhatsApp voicenote
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has noted with concern a circulating WhatsApp audio in Xhosa language conveying wrong information about the upcoming social grants payment.
In the audio the man is heard saying
“SASSA has been hacked and payment will not be made as the organization is afraid that fraudsters will temper with the system. The money will not be paid even on bank accounts until the system is fixed which will take up to two weeks. People must now note that they will get their money at SASSA offices near them and they must bring their ID. I am doing this to alert those who do not have radio or whatsApp because this matter was announced on Umhlobo We Nene Radio”
Kindly note that the above statement is wrong and people must not panic. We urge people to ignore that voicenote and follow SASSA social media pages where payment dates are posted on a monthly basis.
We are currently in a period where due to elections some individual are now trying to cause panic among SASSA beneficiaries. We have also dealt with fake news where people are circulating wrong information saying grant will be cut off.
As SASSA we can assure the public that, the grant payment will not be disturbed and that our systems are up and running. No payment will be negatively affected and everyone will receive their grant money on time.
